Summary for Neural Control and Coordination MCQ Test

The nervous system is like the body’s control center. It coordinates all our activities, from moving our muscles to regulating our internal organs. The main players in this system are cells called neurons. These cells are special because they can send electrical signals very quickly. When a neuron is at rest, it has a small electrical charge called the “resting potential.” When it gets activated, it sends a wave of electrical activity along its length, kind of like a message traveling down a wire. Neurons communicate with each other at junctions called synapses, often using chemical messengers called neurotransmitters.
Our nervous system has two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system. The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord. The brain itself has three main sections: the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The forebrain is the largest part and includes areas that control thinking, emotions, and voluntary movements. The midbrain helps process sensory information like sight and sound. The hindbrain connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls vital functions like breathing and heart rate. Each part of the brain has specific jobs, working together to keep our body functioning and allowing us to interact with the world around us.
